Research
June 22, 2026 - June 27, 2026
From June 22–27, 2026, I had the opportunity to help organize and participate in the Dynamic Walking Conference, held outside Seattle, Washington.
Dynamic Walking is the place for biomechanists, roboticists, theorists, and clinicians to discuss dynamic legged locomotion, manipulation, and behaviour. As a small, single-track conference, the focus of Dynamic Walking is on fostering rich discussions between attendees of all career levels.
I served as a student organizer for this year’s conference, helping support the planning and coordination needed to bring together this interdisciplinary research community. It was rewarding to contribute behind the scenes and help create an environment where researchers and practitioners could exchange ideas, form collaborations, and learn from one another.
I also had the opportunity to present ongoing research with my collaborator Zijie Jin, titled “Can a Machine learn to help without knowing the Human’s objective? Action-Only Adaptation for Exoskeleton Assistance.” Our work examines how an assistive device can adapt to a person when the person’s objective is difficult or impossible for the device to observe directly.
It was exciting to share this work, and I am grateful for the thoughtful questions and discussions throughout the week. I would also like to thank my advisor, Sam Burden, and my collaborator, Kim Ingraham, for the opportunity to contribute to the conference as a student organizer.
